The fireworks display on the Cuesta del Batel is in addition to the cremá of a falla and a fireworks display next to Héroes de Cavite.

Cartagena will launch a mascletá on Sunday with three times as much gunpowder as those usually set off in Valencia’s Plaza del Ayuntamiento during the Fallas. The fireworks display takes place at 2 p.m. in the Cuesta del Batel park. It is part of the festive events scheduled for this weekend in Cartagena thanks to the support of the Consistory, the Valencia Provincial Council and Fallers pel món. Every year this association takes the Fallas of Valencia to a different city.

The mascletá on Sunday will have 350 kilos of gunpowder and will last around 7 minutes. In the last moments of the mascletá, during the final tronaera, around 8,000 masclets or firecrackers will be set off. In the Cuesta del Batel another mascletá will be fired on Saturday, at 13:15 hours, with 100 kilos of gunpowder.

Both mascletás are made by Pirotecnia Nadal-Martí, from Ollería (Valencia). These masters of gunpowder are also in charge of the fireworks display that will light up the port of Cartagena on the Nit del Foc, this Sunday at 9pm. The fireworks will give way to the cremá of a falla next to the Plaza Héroes de Cavite.

The falla planted by Fallers Pel Món will be ready this Thursday, April 24th. It will be installed next to Héroes de Cavite and will feature a mixture of motifs and ninots from Cartagena and Valencia.

Beatriz Sánchez, councillor for Tourism, together with the president of Fallers pel món, José Amores, presented this week the programme for this festival which revolves around the plantá and cremá of a falla. But it also includes the Valencian festival of Moors and Christians, as well as the historic festivities of Cartagena, the Carthaginians and Romans. Together they will parade through the streets of the city. The festivities include a marquee in the port and tastings with up to a giant paella for 3,000 people. Admission is free for falleros and Cartageneros by showing their ID card.
